Reading:
Chapter 6, How Do I Evaluate the Collection? from Mona Kerby's book
Review the Illinois Study at http://www.islma.org/IllinoisStudy.htm. Ask yourself how you could use the data presented here to help with collection analysis.
Task:
In order to effectively develop your library collection, in addition to knowing your community you need several other tools. Over the next several weeks we’ll be leaning about collection analysis, curriculum mapping and collection development policies.
Generally collection analysis includes:
1. Collection size
2. Items per pupil
3. Currency of the collection
4. Relevance to school's curriculum.
Select one of the four collection analysis tools noted above and compare that service to Titlewave/TitleWise.
Follett Library Resources/Titlewave’s TitleWise Collection Analysis Tool can be found at: http://www.flr.follett.com/login/
(NOTE: Free student/guest accounts can be set up in Titlewave. If you do not have an account, this would be a good time to establish one. TIP: use your NLU email to register. Students have reported the process is smoother. If you have a problem, let me know.)
Discussion Board Posting: Post your impressions on the collection analysis tools to the discussion board for this week.
Your initial post should highlight what you feel are important features for your selected product and Titlewave/TitleWise.
Assignment
Email online discussion self-assessment score for Week 1. Due 9/24/11.
